The three types of bandages used in racing are: a. standing bandages, used for applying some kind of therapy to the horses legs and left on while the horse is in the stall during the day and over night. Standing bandages are also applied when a horse travels to make sure the horse does not do any damage to itself. b. polos / exercise bandages, used when the horse does its training. Some horses need them for a little support, or to prevent them hitting themselves (back legs crossing a little etc). They can be used for any kind of exercise (walk, jog, gallop, breeze). c. vet wraps (with run down patches applied), used for breezing and racing. They are more secure than polos, and provide a little more protection.
