What are the different types of tooth filling or dental restorations?
Broadly classified, there are 2 types of tooth filling or dental restorations: Direct Restoration: This kind of restoration is simple & straightforward and is for the Intracoronal preparations as mentioned in the last article. The process for this is to place a soft filling material into the prepared tooth and then setup the structure of the tooth within the time the material gets hard. Usually, dentist fill in extra materail, allow it to set hard and then later drill it for geeting the desired shapes. Direct restoration is directly performed inside the mouth of the patient. InDirect Restoration: InDirect Restoration or Indirect filling is used when the restorative material is prepared outside the mouth. Example include, Veeners, Dentures, Dental Crowns, bridges etc. Here, the procedue is a bit lenghty.
