What are the disadvantages of silver-mercury fillings?

0

Silver fillings expand over time causing cracks and fractures that can be sensitive to chewing pressure or to cold foods and beverages. They allow bacteria to seep into areas surrounding the tooth, thereby causing new decay (cavities). These problems can lead to root canals, unanticipated fractures, and emergency dentistry. Instead of silver, we use natural tooth colored materials that don’t expand and can be bonded (secured) to the teeth much more effectively than silver fillings.
