What are the effects of volatile substance misuse?
It is important to remember that when discussing the effects of VSM and/or any other substance use, that effects of substances do not occur uniformly for everyone. The effects of any type of substance use can vary according to the quantity used, purity used, context in which use occurs and individual factors including mental health, consumption of food, hydration and other factors. Figure 1: Triangle of Influencing Factors Figure 1 represents the relationship between the factors that influence the effects of a substance. When considering the effects of any substance, it is important to remember that each of these factors is dependent upon the others in determining the overall effects and harms resulting from use. The following lists provide a general description of the short and long term effects of VSM.
