The EPA is responsible for a number of human health and environmental protection efforts. These include developing and enforcing regulations; offering financial assistance for state, non-profit, and educational programs; performing environmental research; sponsoring partnerships and programs for pollution and conservation management; and furthering environmental education.The Department of the Interior (DOI) is charged with protection and preservation of certain lands such as the National Park system; providing opportunities for recreation; conducting scientific research; and managing trusts with Indian tribes and island communities. According to the DOI, one of every five acres of U.S. land falls under its management.
