• Develop Multi-skilled Soldiers. Future Army missions will require soldiers who can function in two or more skills, requiring a shift from a task-based to a competency-based MOS system. Competency is defined as a cluster of related knowledge and skills that correlate with performance and affect a major part of ones job (a role or responsibility). The multi-skilled soldier concept is a more flexible way of employing soldiers. It links the competency-based theory with specialization occurring at the unit, based on function and supported by assignment-oriented training. The multi-skilled soldier will be able to function in an ever-changing environment and will be the basis for future force structure decisions. • Combine MOSs with Similar Functions.
