What are the ethical forces behind police corruption?

Greed is a big temptation. Not all cops… but a few will go for bribes to look the other way when an offence has happened; or to lie on the stand in court. This latter incident is less prevalent than the initial bribe to look the other way for generally minor incidents. The majority of cops are pretty honest. Many cops have an alcohol problem and that can make them loose with moral codes. In Australia about 47% of male police have alcohol problems and as many as 43% of the women police. The problem here is that cops dont really want booze out of the “police system” so it lingers on… drawing new constables into the trap and bringing many down into alcoholism and losses of career. Cops everywhere like a drink. Some police forces/departments cope with it better than others.
