What are the Factors that cause Chemical Dependency?
Chemical dependency can be caused by a number of different factors, both environmental and genetic. Consider the following reasons why, most commonly, individuals develop this problem: • A genetic link. Individuals who have parents or other relatives with a drug addiction or alcohol addiction are much more likely to develop a chemical dependency than those who do not. • Peer group. Young people who are part of a peer group where drug or alcohol abuse is accepted practice are more likely to have a chemical dependency. • Mental health issues. Depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses lead many to problems with substance abuse and addiction. These individuals use drugs and alcohol as a means of self-medication in an attempt to numb the pain they are experiencing because of the condition.
