What are the guidelines to be applied for the earthquake resistant system to be followed during the construction of building?
The basic guidelines to be followed are as under: Foundation of the building: a) A raft foundation provides for distribution of pressure over a large surface area and is the best type of foundation. b) In case of isolated footing ,it is more advisable to make them deeper and preferably over a solid rock. The footing should be combined. Plinth level RCC beams: RCC beams should be provided at plinth level which tie the columns into composite to make more stable. Lintels: RCC lintels above windows and doors , and at window sill levels bound to the columns should be provided which will bind the walls and prevent them from flying them out. RCC bracing: Long supported walls should be provided with bracing in the form of RCC beams, perpendicularly and horizontally, for added strength. Heights floor ratio: A low height ratio minimizes the tendency of a building to topple that is a building with small floor area should restrict the height .Floor heights should be equal. The shape of the buildin
