What are the healthiest treats for chinchillas?
They can never eat “as much as they want” of any treat. =S If you want them to have something to nibble on all day buy timothy hay, they love it and can eat it all day. As far as treats go, treat it like its candy even if its not sweet! For example I will give her 3-4 rice crispies or 1 cheerio a DAY. Also I only give her one kind of treat a day, but I try to do something different each day. They may look big and fat but they are really small under their fur and their digestive track can be unbalanced if u give them too much of non-hay food items. Make sure you buy food pellets that don’t have treats in them too, or your chin can have health issues. Some dried fruit can have toxic effects if they eat it on a daily basis (or so some chinchilla breeders say) so I try not to give her more than 4 fruit treats in a week.
