What are the long term causes and the immediate causes of the French Revolution?
The long term and immediate cause go hand in hand, being that a majority of the population in Paris, along with France, were poor and barely could afford a living. The monarchs at the time believed in absolute monarchy, which is the idea that the ascension to the throne was an act of God, thus the monarchs being Gods themselves. There was no middle class at the time in France, much like Europe, only leaving the extremely poor (The Miserable, The Wretched Poor as Victor Hugo once said in his amazing novel Les Misérables) and the aristocracy (the royal family and bourgeoisie). The Russian Revolution was based on similar terms. Case in point: the poor people starve, get pissed, start a revolution, overthrow the government and execute thousands of people. In the end, Napoleon claimed power and became a dictator. So, the revolution didn’t help anything. The American Revolution on the other hand was more successful.
