What are the main components in a voltaic cell? Describe the function of each component?

Anode – the electrode at which oxidation occurs. Cathode – the electrode at which reduction occurs. Electrolytes – containing the ions involved in the redox reaction. If the cell is made by using separate half-cell containers, then some kind of salt bridge must be used to connect the half-cells. Cations in the electrolyte (or salt bridge) move toward the cathode. Anions in the electrolyte (of salt bridge) move toward the anode.
