Geographically, North America extends from Canada through Mexico, although neither is as geographically fortunate as the United States. North America has several climatic zones from the arctic north down through temperate, arid and southern tropics zones nearer the equator. Well over half these climates are good for agriculture. North America has lots of waterways, with rivers. lakes and coastlines facilitating cheap transportation that facilitates transportation. Except for the Rocky Mountains in the west, there are few mountainous obstacles for moving across the continent, a process that was helped enormously by the railroad in the 19th century and automotive engines and aviation in the 20th century.
