What are the major harmful effects in ozone depletion when dealing with human health, crop yields?
There are direct harmful effects resulting from stratospheric ozone depletion and some indirect effects that result due to various environmental feedbacks. A feedback is sort of a domino-effect in nature. Hopefully, I can explain a little better in just a bit. Stratospheric ozone provides a protective filter for harmful vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and near ultraviolet radiation (NUV). If it is depleted, this energetic radiation reaches the earth and leads to skin cancers (melanomas), cataract formation (early blindness), and can also lead to a decreased immune response to a number of infectious agents and diseases. Plants/agriculture will tend to suffer a similar fate as humans, the stoma of most plants cannot withstand more intense radiation and many sensitive species would die from what is essentially radiation poisoning. Crop yields would decrease. These would be the direct effects. Increased VUV and NUV radiation from the sun reaching the Earth’s surface will tend to increase the glob
