SLR: Single Lens Reflex This refers to a camera type which allows for TTL (through the lens) viewing and metering. You see exactly what will be transmitted onto the film or image plane. Unlike non-SLR cameras which use a seperate viewfinder window which can lead to an image perspective flaw known as parallax. The lens houses the glass elements which capture and direct light through an aperture (or iris) into the mirror box. The aperture, contained within the lens, determines how much light is to be allowed into the mirror box. The mirror box houses the reflex mirror, which transmits the light directed from the lens into a pentaprism, which transmits that light through the viewfinder allowing you to see what the lens sees. It houses the shutter, which determines how long the light is to be transmitted to the film or image plane.
