What are the post-placement requirements and how do you finalize the adoption with the Thai Department of Social Development and Welfare?
In addition to fulfilling the requirements of their home state, families are required to complete three post-placement reports with a social working at 2, 4, and 6 months after placement. Once the post-placement reports are completed, they are submitted to the Thai Child Adoption Board for review before the board issues the final adoption decree. With the final adoption decree from Thailand, the adoptive family is able to readopt their child in the U.S. and then register the adoption at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. FFAC also asks that adoptive families send yearly updates (including photos) until the child is 18 years old; reports are kept at FFAC and made available to birth parents/relatives should they inquire about the child.
