What are the predictions for Hispanic population percentages in Texas?
In 1995, almost three in ten Texans were Hispanic, compared with one in ten U.S. residents. The share of Texans who are non-Hispanic blacks is average, at 12 percent. The state has smaller-than-average shares of non-Hispanic whites, American Indians, and Asian and Pacific Islanders. About 58 percent of Texans are non-Hispanic whites, compared with 74 percent of the U.S. population. Three percent are other races, compared with 4 percent for the U.S. Within 15 years, Hispanics and other “minorities” will be a majority of Texans.
