What are the pro and cons of epoxied pickups?
The pro of an epoxied pickup is that it keeps you from messing with it after it is built. Many active pickups are epoxied to keep sensitive components from being altered or damaged. The biggest problem I have with epoxied pickups is that you can’t repair or modify them with ease. We get epoxied pickups in all the time for repair and sometimes we can remove the epoxy material and other pickups can get destroyed. I personally don’t like epoxied pickups because they are a pain to repair and modify. The epoxy solution is usually too thick to permeate into the turns of the coil doesn’t help feedback as much as some may think. It can help reduce movement to some of the components but not all. When most epoxy pickups fail you might as well use them as a paperweight.
