What are the ranks / positions onboard a Royal Navy Submarine?
There are many jobs onboard a submarine, everyone has one main role and then a fighting role. Any submariner must also know the submarine backwards and forwards, and do many different jobs on board, including firefighting, damage repair and more specialised jobs to earn the coveted Dolphins that are only for qualified submariners The Rates (Commissioned men) have the following ranks in order: Able Seaman (AB) (This is what seaman become having past out from Basic Training) Leading Hand (LH) Petty Officer (PO) Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Warrant Officer (WO) The following jobs are available to them: 1 Communication and Informations Systems Specialist – Receiving/sending radio signals 2 Warfare Specialist Tactical – identifying targets from active/passive sonar and radar readings 3 Warfare Specialist Sensors – Sonar operator – locating targets 4 Engineering Technician – Weapons WE – maintaining weapons systems 5 Engineering Technician – Marine ME – maintaining life systems onboard (reactor
