The M.A. or M.S. degree requires completion of 36 units of courses. Students matriculated in the Ph.D. program, may also earn an M.A. or M.S. along the way. Completion of the degree requirements and the advancement to candidacy form must be completed in order to be considered. The requirements for the M.A. or M.S. in Mathematics are: 1) Completion of at least eighteen (18) units at the graduate level (200 series) in mathematics. (MATH 260 cannot be used without Mathematics Graduate Committee’s approval). 2) Completion of MATH 131, MATH 132, MATH 151A, and MATH 151B or their equivalents. (Units are only awarded for the courses actually taken, and that have not already been applied toward the conferral of another degree. If an equivalency is approved, then the units must be made with math electives either at the 100 or 200 level.) 3) Completion of two introductory course sequences with a grade of “C” or better in each course and a GPA of 3.00 in each chosen sequence.
