Always carry small money, be prepared to haggle over everything and don’t look too interested. There is a great book available called Culture Shock! Morocco by Orin Hargraves, and it helps with all kinds of issues like this. There are no “rules” but I can give you some tips. Thousands of kids will hassle you. You have to learn to ignore them. Once you get talking they’ll never leave you alone. Everyone will want to invite you in for a drink (mostly mint tea) and you won’t be able to get away without buying something. When you ask for a price they will immediately say that you should collect some other things and they will make a price for everything. It can really become a pain, so you have to stay stubborn and haggle for a price for the item(s) you really want and nothing else. It can be fun and because things are really cheap it’s more of a bit of fun than really trying to save money. Be very careful about expensive goods such as carpets and engraved items. They will convince you that they can ship it home for you but you can get ripped off. For expensive things only go with a guide recommended by a hotel. Guides obviously have places where they will get some commission but it is far safer than doing it
