What are the signs and symptoms to look for after birth to help detect an underactive thyroid?
Your baby will look perfectly normal after birth. You should start to watch out for things like poor appetite, always sleeping, slow to put on weight, doesn’t seem to kick or scream much and is constipated. Other symptoms that may occur are breathing difficulties, a hoarse cry, low body temperature: less than 36 degrees Celsius, prolonged jaundice, big tongue and floppy muscles.
