What are the signs, symptoms and treatment of Decompression Illness (DCI)?
The Signs • Blotchy skin rash • Paralysis or weakness anywhere in the body • Coughing spasms • Staggering or instability • Shortness of breath • Altered mental status • Unconsciousness Emergency First Aid • Check airway, breathing and circulation (ABC’s) • Administer 100% oxygen • Place diver in recovery position • Treat for shock • Transport to the nearest hyperbaric facility • Be sure to get an infusion for dehydration.
