The City of Redondo Beach adopted the following state laws relating to smoke detectors in residential units: California Health & Safety Code, Section 13113.7: “Dwelling units intended for human occupancy shall have a working smoke detector installed by January 1, 1987.” Uniform Fire Code, Appendix 1A 6.1: “Dwelling units and hotel or lodging house guest rooms that are used for sleeping purposes shall be provided with smoke detectors.” “Smoke detectors shall be installed when single family or duplex changes ownership – detectors may be battery or hard wire.
