What are the stages of HIV?
The first stage, which is the stage with the largest number of infected persons, is the asymptomatic stage. The next stage is one of mild symptoms, such as swollen glands, fevers or skin rashes, may continue for years before the onset of AIDS. As the infection continues, the symptoms become chronic. The most advanced stage of HIV is called AIDS. When people have AIDS, infections are often severe and sometimes fatal because the immune system is so ravaged by HIV that the body cannot fight off certain bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and other microbes.
