There are several accredited organizations that can help you become a certified personal trainer.  Some of the better known ones include NFPT (National Federation of Professional Trainers), IFPA (International Fitness Professionals Association), NCSF (National Council on Strength and Fitness) and ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). Each organization has their own rules and certification requirements, but most will require workshops or home study, followed by an exam that is usually taken on location. Many programs will cost anywhere in the range of $200 to $600 to fulfill the course requisites.

For detailed requirements, visit the website of the particular trainers' association in which you are interested in being certified. Once you earn your certification, you can search for jobs as a personal trainer at gyms, corporations, spas, or even for private clients.
