The patient usually has severe pain in the upper abdomen with vomiting; and this usually follows a heavy meal and alcohol intake. Pain is severe and radiates to the back. Patient may also have swelling of the abdomen and fever. When the patient develops these symptoms, he/she should report to the doctor immediately for investigation and treatment. Severe cases will need hospitalization.
