What are the symptoms of deep vain thrombosis of the legs please?
Usually a Deep Vein Thrombosis (or DVT) presents itself as a swelling in the calf area of the leg, which becomes red, inflammed and is hot/very warm to touch in comparison to other parts of the leg. Normally, DVT of the legs form where there has been a long period of inactivity – for example, flying, or in ill people who have spent a lot of time in bed. There are also many risk factors for DVT, including some medications, blood clotting disorders. Somebody who believes they have a DVT should report immediately to the emergency department / emergency room of the nearest hospital, as can cause serious injury or death if the clot moves to another part of the body.
