With a stroke, the blood supply to part of the brain is stopped, robbing the area of nutrients and oxygen. This sudden loss of blood supply causes the brain cells to die rapidly, leading to a disruption in nerve impulses and even possibly death. To understand how to recognize a stroke, it is important to know the different types of stroke and how strokes occur. There are two different types of stroke: ischemic (caused by a blocked vessel), and hemorrhagic (caused by a burst vessel or aneurysm).
