Occupied Palestinian Territories Israel started the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967. The Golem Heights are a part of the West Bank and the Sinai was returned to Egyptian control witch the Gaza’s southern boarder is shared; Gaza is not under the control of Egypt. Although there have been attempts to relinquish control of these regions back to Palestine which is a major part of the peace process, to this date it has been unsuccessful.
