a variable is some thing in the experiment that you can change the variables are all the places you would put the bread also i think it’s identify, not identity invariable would be, the bread (you should use the same type of bread) the type of mold that grows how fast it grows

It seems the variables in this experiment are the locations themselves. So after you place the “mold” in those areas you would see which place the mold grew the fastest. Then for each area you can describe the area and give possible reasons as to why the various “mold” grew faster or slower in those areas. In which the variable-> location can have sub variables-> such as dark, damp, light, hot, cold, hard, soft, etc. Essentially the variable is what you are testing for in which you can compare the variables or compare the variables to a control (a base, starting point -> in your case it can be in the middle of the room at room temperature).
