What are the Web of Science Citation Indexes?
The Web of Science Citation Indexes are citation databases. A citation database contains the bibliographies / reference lists of the articles indexed. These references serve as index terms and can be searched. A document indexed within a citation database enables its historical origin (ie. the references cited in that article) to be examined. You can also follow the history of an article through to its current position in the resarch literature (ie. number of times cited). This tool can help you to determine which are the most influential articles, authors, and journals in your field by indicating how frequently they are cited, and can help you to use useful articles to discover related works by comparing similarities in reference lists.
