What are things the SDC does not do?
The SDC does not claim to have all the answers for the application of alternative energy resources. It is obvious that PV systems will not meet all the world’s future energy needs. It will take a combined effort in conservation, better use of fossil-based energy systems, applying all feasible alternate energy possibilities, developing, and applying new science and expertise. It is also important to be realistic about the application of solar electric technology. Although there are cost effective PV systems available the current solar PV systems prevent many from implementing viable installations. What is available on the market today for PV is growing in acceptance but the cost factor is still hampering an accelerated expansion of this technology. PV systems do not completely replace fossil fueled sources, or take users off the utility power grid because of factors such as cost, the diverse and intermittent nature of its source fuel, sunlight.
