What are TIFF and JPEG files?
TIFF (or TIF) and JPEG (or JPG) are the two most common standards for storing digital images in files. Nearly every digital camera can create JPEG files, while many high-end cameras also create TIFF files. TIFF files are usually much larger because they don’t compress the images. JPEG files can be smaller, but by compressing the data some information is lost. However, for images used to make 4×6 prints, the difference is often nearly impossible to detect.
