What are topographic maps?
Topographic maps show the shape of the earth’s surface with contour lines. Contours are imaginary lines that join points of equal elevation on the surface of the land and, thus, make it possible to read the height of the mountains and steepness of slopes. They also typically show features such as streets, buildings, streams, woods, mines, township-range-section, latitude-longitude, etc.
