What assessment options will students have for meeting the Reading Essential Skill requirement?
OAKS Reading Assessment: Students who reach standard on the high school OAKS reading assessment have met their reading essential skill. The cut score for passing the high school OAKS reading assessment is a 236. Work Samples: Students may use two work samples scored with the Official Reading Scoring Guide as evidence of proficiency in the essential skill of reading under the following conditions: at least one of the work samples must be on an informational reading selection; and total scores for each of the two work samples must be 12 or higher (across 3 traits on a 6 point scale) and no score can be lower than a 3 for any one trait.ODE developed a reading scoring guide and it was approved by the State Board of Education in October 2009.
