What attracts students to the study of Mathematics?
Most college math students like to solve challenging problems. Many had good experiences with secondary school math teachers who individually “baited” them with extra problems of the “can’t sleep until you’ve solved it” type. Math students also tend to enjoy discovering structure and patterns through logical thinking. As a fringe benefit, many of them are aware that the job prospects are excellent for people with strong mathematical skills.
