What bit and bridle are best for my horse?
You can move up to a bit with a bit more power, but you can’t just put a stronger bit to solve all of your problems. Bits help, because if they didn’t then we would all ride in plain snaffle bits! However, if your horse is completely ignoring your aids, it is a matter of training and respect. Move up to a slightly stronger bit as a way of helping to correct this problem, but since you say some days he is a dream and other days he doesn’t listen to you, then it is really obvious it is a respect and training issue. Work on ground work and basics or get a more experienced person to school him a bit and do lots of flat work, pole work, smaller jumps (if you jump) etc. You need to make him listen to YOU. The hunk of metal in their mouth helps to different degrees, but you can’t rely on it to control your horse.
