What can archaeologists learn from artifacts?

Plenty, depending on what the item is of course, can determine what can be learned. We can learn how old an item is which places it’s civilization in a time period and the location of that civilization. On neanderthal skulls we’ve found traces of plants on the teeth. These plants had certain medicinal properties and weren’t good to eat otherwise. This shows us that the neanderthals had some sort of primitive medical knowledge. Artifacts are our only link to prehistoric times, from them we can piece together clues and form ideas on what those people were like and what happened.
