What can be concluded from the comparisons of the DNA profiles?
If the evidentiary DNA profile is from a single source, and the evidentiary sample and known sample have the same profile, then the results are consistent with the tested person being the source of the DNA from the evidentiary sample. If the evidentiary DNA profile is from a single source, and the evidentiary sample and known sample have different profiles, then the tested person is eliminated from being the source of the DNA from the evidentiary sample. If the evidentiary DNA profile demonstrates it is from more than one source (that it is a DNA mixture) then the conclusions are more complex. The tested person could be a contributor, eliminated as a contributor, cannot be eliminated as a minor contributor, or the results may be inconclusive.
