What can be done to protect ships from pirates in the Indian Ocean (and other remote areas)?
At the moment there is UN coalition fleet patrolling the Indian Ocean. This may help. The problem is that the Indian Ocean is a very big pond to cover effectively. Private security onboard ships transitting high-risk areas are probably the best bet. Pirates have always liked to prey on defenceless merchantmen.
