What can I store at a self storage facility?

It’s really up to you what you decide to store in your storage facility, but you need to make sure it’s within the terms of the storage facility rental. Some of the most common items stored at storage facilities include:

  • Cars
  • Motorbikes
  • Homeware Items
  • Paperwork
  • Business Stock

Most storage facilities will have a list of prohibited items that you cannot store. I use a company for storage in Essex and their prohibited items include:

  • Flammable or hazardous materials
  • Illegal material
  • Animals
  • Firearms or Explosives

It’s quite basic stuff really. If you think the item you have in mind may be unacceptable, you’re probably right. The companies have to cover themselves in case any of their renters are doing anything illegal in their storage facility. If you plan on storing regular things like stuff from around the house or things associated with your shop or business, then you should have no problem finding a good storage company.
