American Gun Co and New York Arms were both trade names used by H&D Folsum, a large wholesale/retail sporting goods store in New York City, circa 1890 – 1960. It would have been manufactured by Crescent Firearms of Meriden, CT, or one of several Belgian gunmakers. If it is from Belgium, it will have proofmarks of “*ELG” in an oval or an oblisk (similar to the Washington Monument). A Belgian gun would have been made before WWI, a Crescent up to about 1930.
