What Caused Britains Latest Botulism Scare?
The UK’s Food Standards Agency warned consumers on April 20, 2007 that it had reason to be believe that various packaged meat products sold in Scotland and the country of Cumbria might be contaminated and could cause botulism. The Agency singled out two products in particular, namely smoked beef and venison, produced by the Islay Fine Food Company. The products have been pulled from most stores, following a general recall. There are some concerns that consumers may have bought these products prior to the completion of the recall. If you have either venison or smoked beef from Islay Fine Foods, you should dispose of these products. This is especially the case, if the expiry date on the package is marked as either May 9, or June 9. The Food Standards Agency issued another recall, at nearly the same time, of Florette’s Lambs Lettuce, sold at various locations throughout the UK. In this case, there are some concerns of salmonella.
