What caused the earthquake in Oklahoma today?
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck central Oklahoma this morning. The earthquake today was the second strongest earthquake in Oklahoma’s history. Oklahoma Geological Survey officials say that they are unsure of the cause of this earthquake. Currently, there are large natural gas drilling operation taking place in Oklahoma Arkoma Basin by two major companies, Energy and BP. This earthquake as well as quakes occurring in Texas and West Virginia may be connected to a natural gas drilling and the process is called “saltwater injection”. Oklahoma is currently the top natural gas producing state in the country with more than a dozen of the 100 largest natural gas fields in the country are found in Oklahoma. After the earthquake in Oklahoma this morning, the cause of it has been connected, by the researches, to the study that took place in an area of North Texas where it was established that a saltwater injection disposal well in the area was a ‘plausible cause’ for a number of small earthquak
