What causes a foot or ankle fracture?
If you suspect that you have fractured your foot or ankle, you should see your doctor or go to the emergency room. A physical examination by your doctor, with focus on pain and range of motion, will help determine diagnosis. Typically x-ray imaging will confirm that the injury is a fracture and rule out any underlying conditions. Other injuries may also occur around the ankle joint, including Achilles tendon rupture (tear) and ankle sprain.
