What causes aortic valve stenosis?

Aortic valve stenosis also referred to simply as aortic stenosis is a condition that is caused by the narrowing of the aortic valve of the heart. This in turn keeps the valve from opening all the way which causes the flow of blood from the heart to the aorta and the rest of the body to be decreased or blocked. This condition causes the heart to have to work harder to pump blood to the body and therefore weakens the heart and decreases the amount of blood it is able to pump causing such symptoms as dizziness and fatigue. When this happens surgery is often needed to replace the defective valve and if not treated can result in serious health issues. This condition often varies in severity from mild to extreme and usually only occur when the narrowing of the valve is extreme. Some symptoms of this may include, pain or tightness of the chest, fainting or feeling as if you will faint or becoming short of breath after strenuous activity, fatigue and heart murmur or palpitations.
