What causes cracked hands and feet?

You are probably dealing with some eczema of the hands and feet. In that condition, the skin is inflamed and unable to hold the tissue water within; thus, it evaporates leading to dry skin. This dry skin is unable to bend well (it’s not pliable) so that when you walk or bend your hand, the skin of those areas won’t bend like it normally would, and instead it cracks and fissures. The best treatment would be both to use a cortisone product to treat the underlying eczema and a moisturizer to help replace lost water. Using only one of the two will help a bit, but won’t get you as far as if you use both.
