What causes weld porosity in Tig welding and how do I prevent it?

A. Weld porosity in Tig is usually the result of base metal or filler wire contamination, or shielding gas issues. Check that you base metal is clean and ready to weld, and there is no contamination like oil or adhesives on your filler metal. Even excessive oils from your fingers may be a contaminant in critical Tig applications! Then look for shielding gas issues- the wrong shielding gas, incorrect gas flow settings, or loose connections that may be drawing air contamination into your gas line. Make sure you check that all your connections all the way back to your cylinder are tight.
