Last year I worked with colleagues at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa to initiate a series of surveys of health care professionals. We are continuing the project this year. We are hoping to monitor the evolving context in the coming years if we can patch together the project funding. Health care professionals are in a volatile context as developed nations recruit nurses, physicians, and other practitioners as they fail to train sufficiently to meet their needs. A constant out-migration of talent is a significant challenge on the health care system. A major problem with managing change is that the ideals outstrip planning and resources.
